Tom Welch is a musician-songwriter and teacher living in the mid-coast Maine town of Bristol. He has played in numerous bluegrass, country and pop bands during his career and has performed throughout the Northeastern US, from Calais-St. Stephen (N.B. Canada) to Pennsylvania, and beyond to Mazatlán, Mexico.
He was a member of Canadian country music icon Joan Kennedy’s band for more than a decade, performing mostly in New England. He performed in a concert series with the Kennedy band in Mazatlán Mexico for two successive years. He wrote the music and lyrics for “The Old St. John,” a popular song recorded by Joan and released in Canada to commemorate the devasting floods along the St. John River.
Tom has also recorded and performed with Maine music legend and and five-time Emmy Award nominee Con Fullam, who wrote and produced a four-volume entitled “The First 40 Years,” among many other musical achievements. Tom performed with Fullam’s ensemble in that album’s release concert in 2018 at One Longfellow Square in Portland.
In the mid-200’s Tom collaborated with musician Jeremy Dalton, writing the lyrics for nearly a dozen of Dalton’s musical arrangements and performing with him in Allentown, Pennsylvania to debut some of his music. He is also founder and a former member of the Poorboys, a Maine-based trio that performed throughout Maine for more than a decade with noted Maine blues singer Ray Cyr and musician Joanne Fisher.
Tom has taught Music (banjo and Mandolin) for nearly 20 years and is a long-time member of the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP).
